DAY 32: We poured today!!!

We poured our basement on November 2, 2011.  We actually have real concrete basement walls now.  Before we could pour all of the bracing had to be in place.  That's the green poles sticking out from the walls.  The poles adjust so that the walls can be moved in or out while the concrete is still wet. That way we can get straight walls.

The corners and other vulnerable spots were supported with particle board.  The windows and doors all have heavy bracing (forgot to take a picture of that).

This is what I saw when I pulled up in the morning--so happy!  We're going to have walls!

Blaine is guiding the cement into the walls.  Brent and Brady (Blaine's son-in-law) are putting a long cement vibrator into the cement.  This breaks up any air bubbles or pockets.  Brent said it was really cool when Brady pulled out the vibrator because the cement instantly settled about another 3 inches.  Where was I?  I took these pictures but most of the time I was down by the footings hitting the walls for Blaine.  I could hear where the cement ended and let Blaine know if I heard any pockets.

Brent is in the green hoodie/blue cap on the right of the (above) photo.

This is an inside peek at the wall.  You can see the cement starting to fill up the walls as well as surround rebar.  Gotta love the bonus of a plastic cup buried in one of our walls (oops).
